Slew of tablet PC are popping like mushrooms now a day and there is no stopping them. From generic Chinese brands to the very high-end iPad2 and other brands like Samsung’s stylish Galaxy Tab. What makes the Galaxy Tab stand out is its size….it comes standard with a very well made Gorilla glass 7” inches multi – touch screen. The Gorilla glass makes the Galaxy tab withstand scratches but nevertheless I would recommend owners to have their screen protected at all times just to protect their investment.
For starters, the Galaxy Tablet that I personally use is a Wifi and 3G unit and also doubles as a phone when inserted with a regular SIM pack. However, for personal preferences and for convenience I opted to use the tablet for multi-media and for internet browning only when I am on the go. Call functions are therefore disabled as I carry another phone for that purpose. It was a love at first sight encounter with the Galaxy tab. I was drawn to its perfect size, price point and of course it’s specs and features. It has a perfect size that would fit in my not so big LV sling bag. It also has 2 cameras; 1 in the back with a 3.5 mega pixel sensor and 1 front facing 1.5 mega pixel sensor for video chat. The quality of the photos and video are also outstanding. In fact, in my recent trip to Singapore I was constantly using its camera and uploading photos directly to facebook rather than using my stand alone digital camera. What more can you ask for from a tab? This unit is perfectly sized, it’s also fast, the OS is a 2.2 android Froyo which is very stable and of course it’s made by Samsung. Downloading apps for the tablet fast and are mostly for free so that actually seals the deal for me.
On the downside……I have yet to see a gadget even from other manufacturers including Apple’s iPhone from not being able to hang sometimes. There are times that I tend to forget to close many of the applications that I have used and sometimes it hangs. The only solution is to go to the task manager and kill those apps manually. It is also advicesable to download Android Manager apps for you to be able to free clean up the memory and clean up the RAM from unnecessary use from time to time to make the device work faster and will not be prone to hanging. So far, I have only praises for the Samsung Galaxy 7” tablet. The only thing that I don’t like is the very slow connection from its internet service provided (I’m using a wireless broadband SIM), but that’s going to be for another story.
